Shutter Painting Instructions

These instructions apply only to our paintable product (49), all other products that are a color are NOT paintable

1. Do not expose shutters to direct sunlight before, during or immediately after painting. Shutters should be between 60 F and 90 F for best results.

2. Clean shutter panels using either a mixture of ammonia and water or Tri-Sodium Phosphate(TSP) and water. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry 1 to 2 hours.

3. Prime shutter with a good primer. We recommend Zinnser Bullseye 1-2-3 and Cover- Stain or Masterchem KILZ II and KILZ Total One. Follow manufacturer's instructions.

4. For best results use a high quality oil base or latex paint for a top coat. DO NOT USE ANY TYPES OF VINYL BASED PAINTS.

5. Apply two coats of the finish paint following the manufacturer's recommendations on the amount of time between coats. The paint can be applied with a brush or spray following the paint manufacturer's recommendations.

6. Allow the shutter to dry two to seven days prior to installation, especially if the shutter will be exposed to direct sun and high temperatures. This will allow the paint to fully cure.

Revision 1, 12/20/95

 Shutter Mounting Instructions

1. Lay shutter face down on a clean, soft, flat surface, preferably a piece of plywood, for drilling purposes.

2. Using the locator holes in the support flanges, on the back of the shutter, at the top and bottom, drill a 1/4 inch diameter hole* through to the front of the rail. In rail, on each side of the center, drill a 1/4 inch diameter hole* in line with the holes in he holes in the tops and bottoms and the middle of the center cross member.
*(Use a 3/8 inch diameter drill for Shutter Spikes).

3. Position the shutter on the house next to the window.

4. Using a punch or other suitable marker, mark the mounting hole locations on the building.

Wood, Vinyl & Aluminum

Brick & Masonry

Using Shutter Spikes

5. Remove the shutter and drill a 1/8 inch diameter hole through the siding and into the wall at least 1 3/4 inches deep at the marks.

6. For Vinyl and Aluminum siding, using a 1/4 inch diameter bit, drill a clearance hole through the siding only. Do not drill into the wall.

7. Place shutter back on the house and fasten it to the wall using the painted screws provided. Be careful not to damage the head of the screw which will bow in the rail. We suggest using a hand screw driver rather than a power driver or drill.

8. Repeat this process for all remaining shutter panels.

5. Remove the shutter. Use a masonry anchor designed for a number 10 screw which must be purchased separately. Follow anchor manufacturer's installation instructions for inserting anchor into brick or masonry.

6. Place shutter back on the house and fasten it to the wall using the painted screws provided. Be careful not to damage the head of the screw and not to over tighten the screw which will bow in the rail. We suggest using a hand screw driver rather than a power driver or drill.

7. Repeat this process for all remaining shutter panels.

5. Remove the shutter and drill a 9/32 inch diameter hole into the wall at least 1 3/4 inches deep at the marks. If the wall has siding on it, use a 3/8 inch diameter drill bit bit to open up the 9/32 inch diameter hole in the siding only. Do not drill into the wall.

6. Place shutter back on the house. Put Shutter Spike in a hole. Using a hammer, gently tap the spike in. Repeat until all 6 Shutter Spikes are started. Then finish tapping them all in. BE CAREFUL NOT TO TAP THEM IN TOO FAR! They should only go down far enough for the underside of the Shutter Spike head to touch the shutter when the back edge of the shutter is touching the building. Be careful not to damage the Shutter Spike or the shutter.

7. Repeat this process for all remaining shutter panels

The shutter must be mounted with 6 screws or spikes, in the positions specified in these instructions, in order for the warranty to be valid!!
